From Model to the Decision to “Fix Droopy Eyes”

I work as a professional model and runway coach (IG: @eyes_sarucha), and I also help actors and models develop their personality and presence. In my career, posture, facial expressions, and the way the eyes communicate are significantly important. Sometimes, even a subtle change in the eyes can completely change the overall impression and emotion we want to convey.
The issues I had noticed for quite some time were droopy eyes and the asymmetry between them, especially my left eye. It appeared smaller than the other. When looking straight ahead or taking photos from certain angles, it felt like I couldn’t fully open my eyes. This made me look sleepy or tired even when I didn’t actually feel that way.
Since my appearance and personality are an important part of my work, I decided to consult with a doctor about whether the issue was caused by my eyelid crease alone or the levator muscles were also involved. Moreover, I wanted to know which approach would be the most suitable one to fix my droopy eyes.
What is Droopy Eye? Why Some People Always Look Sleepy
Droopy eyes refer to a condition in which the upper eyelids do not open fully or sit lower than their normal position. In some cases, the upper eyelid may partially cover the iris, making the eyes appear sleepy, tired, or less alert. Droopy eyes can be associated with several factors, including the function of the muscles or tendons that help lift the eyelids, sagging eyelid skin, and each individual’s eye structure.
Before my consultation, I thought my eyes looked droopy because I had hidden eyelid creases, which made my eyes appear less open. However, after consulting with the doctor about double-eyelid surgery, I learned that droopy eyes can have several possible causes, and the contributing factors may differ from person to person.
In my case, the most noticeable concern was that my eyes did not appear equally open when I looked straight ahead. My left eye looked smaller than the other, which sometimes made me appear sleepy or tired. The difference was particularly noticeable in photos or when I was working and needed to use my eyes to convey different emotions.
For anyone who feels that their eyes look droopy or uneven when open, I would recommend consulting a doctor for an assessment. This can help identify the contributing factors and determine a treatment plan that is appropriate for each individual.
Is Double Eyelid Surgery Enough to Fix Droopy Eyes?
This was one of the questions I used to have. At first, I thought that since my eyes looked droopy and my eyelid creases were not as defined as I wanted them to be. Double eyelid surgery alone would help make my eyes look more open.
However, after consulting with Dr. Mina at Lovely Eye & Skin Clinic, I learned that the eyelid crease and the levator muscles are two different parts. Double eyelid surgery primarily focuses on creating and adjusting the height of eyelid crease. The amount of excess skin or fat to be removed depends on each individual’s condition and the surgical technique considered by the doctor.
If droopy eyes are caused by other factors, double eyelid surgery alone may not effectively address this issue. Therefore, an assessment by the doctor to evaluate eyelid structure, muscles that lift the eyelids, and the balance between both eyes is recommended before developing the treatment plan.
Why I Had Both Double Eyelid Surgery and Ptosis Surgery?

After Dr. Mina Lovely Eye (Dr. Mina Naratippakorn, M.D., Medical License No. 43109) carefully assessed my eye conditions, she found that I also had ptosis, which contributed to my droopy and uneven-looking eyes. To address the underlying concern, the procedures involved levator muscle adjustment together with double eyelid surgery.
The ptosis surgery is designed to improve the function of the muscle responsible for lifting the upper eyelid. This helps the eyes open more fully and appear more naturally refreshed. On the other hand, I did not want eyelid creases that looked too thick or high.
Dr. Mina paid close attention to every detail, including my original eye shape, the difference between my left and right eyes, and the design of the eyelid creases to complement my facial structure. Her thorough assessment and personalized approach gave me confidence that the results would be as the natural-looking result I wanted.
Results After Having Double Eyelid Surgery to Fix Droopy Eyes

LOVELY EYE 9 DAYS 9/5/26
9 days after surgery, it was time to have my sutures removed. The medical team informed me that the the incisions were dry, although there was still some swelling. They recommended continuing with warm compresses for another 2–3 days. At this stage, I could wear makeup, but I was advised to avoid applying makeup around the eye area until two weeks after surgery to reduce the risk of infection from cosmetics.

LOVELY EYE 4 MONTHS 18/8/26
Now, it’s been 4 months since the surgery. Time has flown by so quickly. My eyelid creases have started to settle naturally. What I love most is my eyelids become more defined and the eyes are no longer droopy anymore. Especially during runway modeling class, I can express my energy fully. It’s not just about the way I speak or walk, but also my eye contact, facial expression, and confidence. All of them need to be conveyed to my students.
Now that I no longer have to worry about my eyes looking droopy or tired, I can communicate different emotions more effectively. Therefore, it easier for my students to understand and visualize what I’m teaching.
What Should You Do If You Have Droopy Eyes?

LOVELY EYE 4 MONTHS 18/8/26
Whenever someone asks me, “How can I fix droopy eyes?”, I always recommend starting by identifying the causes rather than immediately choosing the double eyelid style you want.
This is particularly important for individuals with tired eyes, sleepy eyes, uneven eyes, difficulties in opening their eyes. A medical assessment can identify concerns associated with the eyelid crease, eyelid skin, eye structure, or other factors.
In my case, some people may think that I only had double eyelid surgery. In fact, my treatment involved both double eyelid surgery and ptosis surgery for levator muscle adjustment.
I would recommend not deciding on a procedure just based on before-and-after photos or reviews. The reason is that a surgical approach that works well for others may not work for you.
